Dr. Fazekas is skilled in providing you with excellent cosmetic procedures.
Botox is a popular procedure for the correction of dynamic or moving wrinkles of the face, which involves the injection of a small amount of Botulinum toxin type A through a fine needle. It blocks the nerve transmission and relaxes the underlying muscles. Botox provides excellent results by removing frown lines between the eyes, on the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes. Other areas of the face and the neck may be treated as well.
The procedure is generally well tolerated, with minimal redness and swelling and potential bruising. Numbing cream or ice maybe applied to decrease discomfort. Its effects last about 4 months, sometimes requiring touch-ups if a patient has an incomplete response. If you consider having Botox, you should refrain from taking aspirin or ibuprofen and alcohol for 5 days prior to the procedure.
Pregnant women and people with history of neuromuscular diseases such as multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis and other neuromuscular conditions are not cadidates for Botox.
Botox may also be injected under the arms to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). This treatment generally has to be repeated every six months.
Superficial chemical peels such as Glycolic acid and Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) can be used to improve the overall appearance of the skin on the face, minimize superficial lines and wrinkles and decrease uneven pigmentation. They are also beneficial to people with acne prone skin and they minimize the appearance of large pores.
You may experience some burning during the treatment and the skin may feel tight afterwards. Detailed pre- and post-care instruction will be given in the office, but generally the skin is more sensitive after the treatment, therefore strict sun avoidance and and refraining from other methods of exfoliation (retinoids, microdermabrasion, salicylic acids, glycolics) is recommended for a period of time after the peel.
We use the DiamondTome ™ Skin Resurfacing Sytem (Altair Instruments, Inc.) to achieve superior non-invasive, painless rejuvenation of the skin without any down time. DiamondTome Wand is used to achieve gentle exfoliation of the skin with natural diamond chips while the dead skin cells are vacuumed away under sterile condition. You may need 4 to 10 treatments depending on the condition being treated and the type of your skin. The skin will be flushed after the procedure which will resolve in 30 minutes. Treated skin will feel and look smoother even after the 1st procedure and the quality will continue to improve with additional treatments. This method can be used for any of the following:
- Skin rejuvenation
- Age and sun spots
- Reduction of fine lines
- Reduction of acne scars
- Extraction of blackheads and whiteheads
- Minor scar revision
- Oily skin
- Reduction of hyperpigmentation such as melasma (mask of pregnancy)
- May alternate with chemical peels to maximize effect (consult Dr. Fazekas regarding this)
Dermal fillers made up of natural, non-animal derived compounds such as hyaluronic acid (Resylane®, Perlane®, Juvederm®) may be used to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in our body and is safe to restore volume to the face. As we get older, we tend to loose volume from certain parts of our face, for example at the nasolabial folds (from the nose to the corner of the mouth), below the corners of the mouth and in the body of the lips. Even rebuilding of the cheeks, filling in under the eyes and the correction of pitted scars is possible with fillers. Pretesting is not required since hylauronic acid is biocompatible. If you are pregnant, nursing or you are under 18, have history of allergic reaction to Gram positive bacteria or have an active infection at the site planning to be treated, you should not receive a filler. For example, Restylane generally lasts 4-6 months, however under the eyes it may last up to a year.
Avoidance of aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and vitamin E is recommended prior to the injection of a dermal filler. Side effects of the injections may include swelling, redness and bruising. Topical numbing creams or nerve blocks can be given to alleviate pain.
Radiesse® is another dermal filler composed of calcium hydroxylapetite microspheres combined with hydrogel which stimulates new collagen formation and lasts longer than Restylane. Dr. Fazekas can elaborate on the differences between the available fillers and help you determine which is more suitable for your needs.
